Mooresville Golf Course

Decided to escape the single digits Michigan cold and play a few rounds in the 60's before returning and hitting the snow covered slopes. Picked this 1978 J. Porter Gibson / 2015 redesigned by Kris Spence rolling layout that plays four (4) tees 6,803/73.0/135 down to 4,895/68.8/123 Par 36/36. Not a bad price of $32 18/cart and girlfriend rode for free. There was no over-seeding here so green spray was used on the tees and firm rolling greens. Cart path only because of melting snow and recent rain so soggy fairways limited driving distances. Playing from Whites (3,176/3,140) the Front 9 seem very friendly in the landing areas and offered challenging 2nd shots to the well protected (traps) elevated "Firm" greens. Fairway traps are well placed so check those yardages before swinging away. Having no trouble hitting greens in regulation but putting proved to be a learning experience on the 1st nine (9) holes having five (5) three (3) putt greens for 22 putts. Approach Hint: Stay Below the Cup. Very fair landing areas with no hazards that you couldn't see from the tee box or fairway. The Back 9 tightens up your tee landing areas and adds trouble to missed greens, so choose bailouts wisely. Luckily my driver was very predictable today so problems were found around the green today. Greens were rolling to 9-10, very hard to hold and read with the mix of green/brown grass shading. They have some yardage markers on the paths but the cart GPS was a real time saver. No real holes stood out today but having many 180-200yd 2nd shots was very tiring. Played today with New Jersey native Roy N that also needed a escape from the cold and enjoys this northern Charlotte location. Ended up shooting 44/41 w/39putts as the greens made things very difficult for me. I bet this is a real good looking course when the brown gives away to the green. Worth returning and playing again.

A pleasure to play. Recently renovated course and clubhouse a big plus for public facility. Friendly and helpful staff. A notable feature is the view of the par 3 seventh hole as you travel east on Wilson street to the course. The green, perched on a hill, appears to offer the challenge: just take your best shot!

I see that this course hasn't been rated in quite some time. Since then, about nine months now, the course has had it's entire front nine redesigned, the green's grass changed to midi-Verdi(spell?), new clubhouse, new driving range and parking lot. All this is top rate, in my humble opinion.

One of the best Public Courses that I know of. Great value for the play offered.
